"First Solo Flight"

You may have noticed that this is not a railway subject - but there is a train in the far distance, if you look hard enough! The painting features a De Havilland 'Tiger Moth' and was a commission from a retired airman. It is therefore in a private collection.

Photo comment By Scott: I was gifted a copy of this print many years ago, and following a recent move was able to finally bring it back out of storage and reframed. I never really knew the story behind it though, and was fascinated to learn it was a commission by an ex-airman. Would it be correct to assume the aircraft reg pictured is the actual aircraft flown by the gentleman? As someone with a background in history & heritage, it's always nice to be able to tell as complete as possible a story behind any painting or object.
