I always carry my camera with me, with a view to capturing scenes from which I may produce a painting and this in turn led me to 'develop' my interest in photography, and I am a member of 'Midlothian Camera Club' - so one hobby feeds off another. This requires purposeful thought when setting up the viewfinder as to the eventual purpose of taking the image - is it a photograph in its own right or will it be more suitable as a painting? I also use the camera (digital) as a quick way to record general information, much as you would in a sketch or notebook, e.g. people in a crowd, their positions, their actions, colour of clothing, traffic, skies, water, reflections in the rain, lighting effects etc. etc., which although insufficient on their own to warrant a painting, may eventually find their way into the detail of a larger piece of work.
